Traveling
Traveling involves:
- a curiosity and an open spirit to the world and others
- a natural sense of enthusiasm reinforced by goals which are motivational, achievable, and profitable
- thinking and anticipating the impact of one’s actions, so that the result is not a random series of events, but a well-orchestrated journey
- excellent organization
Traveling offers:
- a greater sense of independence (i.e. how to organize oneself in an unfamiliar part of the world)
- a greater sense of organization (i.e. planning required before a trip, including accommodation, administrative procedures, etc.)
- a greater sense of responsibility (i.e. organization of travel plans and guided tours)
- more maturity (i.e. to observe the world and its people, including the customs and traditions of other countries, a process which encourages self-reflection about different ways of life)
- more flexibility (i.e. the importance to respect the traditions of another country, particularly a different culture’s way of life, in order to interact with local people)
- a greater tolerance for people who have different lifestyles and values in order to observe the world from another point of view
- greater intellectual curiosity (i.e. better knowledge and understanding of foreign cultures and how these experiences lead to new ideas and creative projects)
- connections with a large network of friends and professional contacts whom I have had the pleasure to meet over the course of my travels. I have shared some wonderful times with these new acquaintances and I hold precious memories of their warmth, kindness, and generosity of spirit
Each time I go on a trip, I recognize how much the unknown represents a challenge, an opportunity to re-evaluate one’s worldview, and how this always leads to very rewarding experiences.
Professional Life and Globalization:
In today’s complicated world, we are constantly required to adapt to changes in the workplace.
Hiring committees keep this in mind and decisions are often based on the candidate’s capacity to adapt to new and challenging environments.
I believe that the independence and self-motivation involved in traveling operates to one’s advantage in the workplace.
With an increased sense of maturity, creativity, responsibility, and organization, I recognize how traveling inspires self-reflection and self-criticism crucial for positions of responsibility.
Facing the challenges of globalization, it is important to be able to adapt to the changes of a constantly evolving marketplace.
